"let me explain... no there is too much, let me sum up...."

I started out so good. I really did.
8 posts in August.
7, in September... and then the numbers continue to get embarrassingly smaller.

So with the New Year come some not-so-new goals, including a big one: write more.

There really is no trick, I have read books on it, talked with other authors (published and non) and the best way to get in the habit of writing, is not just write when you feel like it, not just write when its convienent. Make yourself.

In Stephen King's "On Writing" (a great book and probably the only of his books I will ever read, his stories are way to scary for me to enjoy) he said he has to lock himself in his room to write. When I read that my mind was blown a little. For some reason when I think of authors I think of people who knock out books with little effort... like the words just flow from them onto the page. I'm not sure where the fairytale image of writing comes from, but it was encouraging to read it is indeed a fairytale and that even successful Stephen King struggles to sit down and get out a few pages sometimes.

Not that I'm writing a novel (...yet...) just trying to get back in shape writing-wise.

So I need to get to that.
"Spit spot!"

Jersey sheets are the most comfortable. Although typically she would say flannel or a nice thread count cotton, but there is something about the comfort of a t-shirt all around you. Plus flannel can get so warm. And when you live in the south, getting too warm is a frequent occurrence, even in January. The heat of the laptop on her lap doesn't help. In fact she's had to get out from under her flower-striped (flowers for her, stripes for her husband) duvet covered poof because of how hot it is making her. Now she can see how chipped her toenails are, its definitely time to repaint. On some of the nails they are completely blank. As she sits typing away at her computer, her husband reads. That's how they got back to their bedroom in the first place, he suggested reading in bed. His favorite pre-sleeping past-time. She enjoy it as well. Relaxing. Though she often gets distracted with things to do on her laptop and because of that, her stack of books on her bedside table hardly change, while her husbands bedside table pile is different. His books are there and gone in usually a week. Except his new series, but she would be in error if she didn't mention that was only due to the fact that they are over 500 pages long. Even still, he is a fast reader, but she likes to make up excuses...like her distracting laptop. As they sit they are serenaded by the repetitive chorus of "twinkle twinkle little star" or "ba-ba black sheep" whichever you prefer, being played on their sons sound machine. It is is favorite tune to fall asleep to, and remains on until one of them can't stand it any longer and changes it to "rain" or "ocean" which are actually soothing sounds to fall asleep to. At least they think so. It isn't long before the laptop's heat outdoes the interest in typing--but her husbands knee tickling usually comes before that. He can be so distracting. She saves her work, closes the laptop. Pre-sleeping activity has ended. Time for sleep.
