pooh sticks
One of Winnie the Pooh's favorite pastimes is playing pooh-sticks. Its when he goes to a bridge over a stream and drops a stick on one end and then runs to the other side to see the stick carried under the bridge to the other side by the moving stream.
A slow and simple game played by a silly bear of very little brains.
Yesterday Wes had just enough of the rainy day. Its warm already in Georgia, so we got our rain coats and waterproof shoes and went exploring.
After stomping in a few puddles and stopping to listen to the rain splat-splat-splat on his little hood, we noticed the little stream developing on the curb as the rain water headed towards the gutter. A leaf was being carried swiftly down the sidewalk and Wes followed it with his eyes.
I decided it was time for our own game of Pooh Sticks.
(We used leaves though, because our gutter stream was not as deep as pooh's.)
I picked up a leaf and while holding Wes' hand dropped one down into the stream. I pointed and we watched our leaf sail down our little rain water stream. Wes giggled and went right back to the grass to find his own leaf. We tried grass and clovers too.
Sometimes its nice to slow down, stop thinking about all the things I am responsible for and need to do and take care of. Its nice to turn off my adult brain and watch the leaves sail down into the gutter with the mind of a 2 year old.
Wes and I just delighted in the simple.
and it was good.
