Mama if that's moving up, then I'm moving out...

...that song is stuck in my head a lot lately. (Good ol' Billy Joel.) It's probably because we are prepping for our next move. After months of wondering, weeks of waiting, and days of contemplating if we put the right places in the right order (the army's way of letting you feel like you have some control in where you end up next) ...Nik got the word that we were being send to Fort Drum, New York.

A slight curve ball, for a few reasons, but not a let down. We were being released from the south (no offense to southerners, just not our cup of tea) and re-entering a world with season (though I hear winter is pretty dominate up there) and SNOW.

I know, I'm going to get my fill of snow when we are there. And will most likely be ready for somewhere warmer after that, but the beauty of the army life is nothing is permanent. Change is always in the air. That may freak some people out, but for me, its completely freeing and wicked exciting.

As I chase Wes around the house and help him grasp the commands: "Come here." and "No!" while bouncing Molly, and letting the dogs out and then right back in because they are barking, only to track in mud, that I have to put Molly down to wipe, so she screams and Wes RUNS to comfort her, only to lean a little to hard, making her scream more, so I run to her, move him off and the cycle starts all over again.....while doing this and somehow keeping the house clean and food in the cupboards (most days) I decided that I didn't have enough going on and would enjoy moving us ourselves.

Now one perk of constantly moving in the army, is their promise to move you. They'll send guys to come pack up your house, load it in a truck, load it in storage, load it back on a truck and even UNpack it for you (if you want.) But I said, "nah, I've got this one."

There are some pro's to doing it yourself... I'm not completely crazy. And the biggest of which, being able to go through all that we have collected in our 2+ years here, and sort.

I'm a nerd when it comes to sorting, organizing, labeling, packing and cleaning. So moving ourselves is only adding to the adventure of the move.

And I have found, that when Molly is cooing in her swing, Wes is discovering new tricks on the iPad, the dogs are snoring on their beds... I really do have time and energy to go through a pile and pack. That anytime I look around the house and realize how much stuff we have and feel overwhelmed, each box filled is a step closer to ending our chapter here, and starting our new one in New York.

and that, is invigorating.
